This approach can aid in rewiring the nervous system and help people heal from trauma, any adverse, disturbing, life experience that continue to have a lasting impact by working with maladaptive networks.
Reprocessing the negative experiences in a safe environment, and integrating positive adaptive experiences is a fundamental component of EMDR.
EMDR works on a 3-pronged protocol: Past. Present. Future.
Current problems are informed by past experiences that are not adequately stored (maladaptive). Current triggers or activators that result in disturbance after past experiences have reprocessed may contain more maladaptive content and may need to be worked on independently.
